Sadly, I didn’t really spend too much time racing against other humans (because I keep getting last).
RiMS Racing has both split screen and online multiplayer. If you want to race without worrying that the accident caused by the AI will destroy your bike, this is the mode for you.įor those who wish to challenge smarter (or even potentially dumber) opponents, Multiplayer mode will scratch that itch. Above all else, the motorcycle’s condition will not be retained in between races. Players can adjust the settings and rules for each race. Single Player mode is the closest thing to a traditional Arcade mode in a racing game. I spent quite a fair bit of time in Academy mode-the difference for a newbie like me after taking a few lessons in Academy mode is as clear as daylight. Completing a lesson grants players rewards such as money and even parts. Players get to take part in lessons that will help them improve at specific techniques such as tackling a particular kind of corner.

Whether I fall off the bike or the AI is the one that falls, it’s still a frustrating issue to encounter during races. The AI has a habit of ramming into my bike. However, one thing that took away from the realism is the CPU’s AI for the racers.

It really adds to the realism, which is vital for a simulator of its nature. Understandably, while not everyone will enjoy having to constantly repair and maintain the condition of their bike, I enjoyed this part of RiMS Racing while reviewing the Career mode. Parts wear out with each race, and depending on how much abuse you place on your vehicle, its performance in future races will be affected. Motorcycle maintenance is a neat aspect of Career mode. It takes practice to nail challenging corners, just like in real life. Depending on how familiar you are with the genre, each difficulty mode should cater to the player of that specific skill level (beginner is still demanding though, as per the norm of simulation games of this depth). There is a choice between three levels of difficulty. For this review, I picked the Aprilia RSV4 1100 not because I was a RiMS Racing expert, but because it was the most familiar one to me in real life. Along the way, you’ll get to travel throughout the world, racing on different tracks while collecting various vehicles and accessories.Īfter completing the tutorial, Career mode starts by having to choose a motorcycle. The resistance of riding across a wet surface as opposed to a dry surface is pretty clearly felt (but it also wears out your tires at different rates). You’ll also be able to race on roads, taking in scenery from across the world including Italy, Norway, Australia and the U.S.
RiMS Racing features 10 official circuits, including Laguna Seca, Nürburgring and Suzuka Circuit. Needless to say, then, this is no arcade racer.
You’ll even need to monitor your brake disc temperature and tyre pressure. Every part of your bike can be optimised, so expect to spend a lot of time tinkering. The game promises to have over 500 official parts available, which will “set a new standard for customisation options”. And if you’re into bikes, that sounds like a rather interesting concept. It sounds a bit like Mechanic Simulator crossed with a racing game. But we imagine that in RiMS Racing, fiddling with your bike’s mechanics and manually tuning it up is just as important as actually being out on the track. What that means we’re not entirely sure, because the trailer that came along with the announcement is rather vague in details. As per the press release, it has a “unique concept of combining mechanics and riding, because the race is not won purely on the track!”. Nacon, known for its WRC series of rally games amongst others, has announced a brand new IP: RiMS Racing.įrom Nacon and developer RaceWard Studio, RiMS Racing is a motorbike racing game.
